Leading the Way
Steve McConnell
Exodus 13:21-22
As we face day-to-day life we are taught to make logical and intelligent decisions that will position us for success and potential growth. God, on the other hand, has already made plans and purposes for our lives. This is where the difficulties of humanity and God’s lordship conflict. We think we want one thing while God may want another. This can lead to a life of success, but empty of fulfillment. Others, may be gripped with shame of their past, or fear of stepping out because of the unknown. This can keep us from walking in His plans and purposes for our lives. God has shown us His faithfulness for thousands of years. God has chosen to dwell with His people. He longs to care for and have relationship with us.

Explaining the text
• Who was the pillar?
• Why the change in relationship?

1) He goes before us
• He has a calling and a destiny and He is scouting the land for which He has prepared for us.
• “The Lord is the one who goes ahead of you; He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed” (Dt 31:8).

What resources do we have?
• He has sent the Holy Spirit to guide us.
• He speaks to us through the Word of God
• He speaks to us through wise godly counsel
• He provides for us (where God guides, He provides)

2) He goes with us (Mt 1:23 Immanuel)
• He doesn’t just send you, He is with you.
• Fear births disbelief; disbelief births procrastination. Once we procrastinate, we allow the moment of action to pass.
• He will not leave you, it is not based on results or performance. It is based on His deep love to reconcile you to Himself (2Co 5:17-19).
• He has created us in His image (Ge 1:27).

You, ________________ are a marvel of all creation that God breathed life into you.

When God speaks to us we must be willing to move. Our self-worth has a lot to do with what and how we allow God to use us.

3) He moves quickly (2Pe 3:9 NIV)
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
• God never intended the Israelites to wander for forty years
• Give God lordship of your life
• Authority in the name of the Lord
• God takes action for the love of His people.

God has such a deep affection and longing to be with His people. He loves us with an everlasting love and He has conquered death on our behalf. Many times our response is that of the Israelites and we lose sight of His deep love for us and we don’t walk in the power and authority He has given and promised for you and me. God has shown His deep love for His people and it’s our turn to respond. We are His prized possessions and He will hold nothing back from us. We have to begin to reach out and take hold of what He has given us.

1) Has He gone before you or is He going before you?
2) Has He gone with you?
3) Is He moving quickly?
