Stepping Out
Pastor Joe Bulman
Have you ever had an experience where you had to do something uncomfortable? Have you ever stepped-out in faith, even under the leading of the Lord and things didn’t go like you imagined they would? Guess what, you’re not alone. Faith can be a hard thing, stepping out in faith more often then not means that you step out of a comfortable situation into an unknown one. Even though this can be hard for almost all of us, it is important. It is through faith that we grow in our understanding that we must be reliant on God and not on our own strengths. It is through faith that we conquer fear.

Today we are going to talk about stepping out, stepping out in faith that is. Our text will be based out of Matthew 14, where Jesus walks on the water.

Matthew 14:22-33 (NIV)

1) Storms are ___________________.

a) There __________________ be rough waters, trials and things that are out of control.

b) He is ___________________________ of the storm, we have to look for Him.

c) He brings comfort in _________________ not always in the changing of circumstances.

2) Peter _________________ a good start.

a) Peter asked for the Lord to ______________________.

b) Peter wanted to experience something that was greater than _______________.

c) Peter did something a _______________________.

3) Have you allowed fear to get the best of you?

a) We have to keep our __________________ on the calling.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead (James 2:17).

“Why did you doubt?”____________________________________________

b) When we __________________ fear, we let go of trust in God.

c) He will always reach for us when we ____________________ for Him.

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you (Isaiah 41:13).

4) Will you choose to step-out?

Faith is the process of taking our eyes off of ourselves, our own limitations, weaknesses and everything that says we can’t and focusing on the almighty power of our Father.

It’s up to you. Will you stay in the boat, or will you following the call of Jesus?

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20)

1) Have you ever taken the time to ask God to call you out?
2) Is God calling you to something right now?
3) Will you step-out?
4) Are you in the midst of stepping out and find yourself lacking faith?
5) Why did you doubt?
